HOW TO SELECT AND ACQUIRE THE RIGHT DOG FOR YOU

Ok so this is TOTALLY different from what I normally post, but because it must be “lets get a puppy” season on the internet, I feel compelled to make this post.

I see a lot of gobbledygook posted here and lot of other places about how to go about getting a dog, how to select what breed is right for you, and all that jazz… and I’m sure posts like this one have been made before, but being as how its something I feel very strongly about, I’m gonna go ahead and post my own spin on things.

Sticking under a read more so it doesn’t get too long (spoiler its really long), but keep reading for info on how to select the right breed/individual dog for you, or how to go about getting a dog responsibly (be it a rescue or from a breeder).

Find your perfect match during the Back in Black National Adoption Event
Black tie, black t-shirt or a little black dress. Whatever your taste, add style and love to your life by adopting a beautiful black dog or cat during the “Back in Black” adoption promotion. Your new best friend can’t wait to meet you!
Black dogs and cats are often overlooked for adoption but why? Here are a few theories.

Black dogs and cats are harder to photograph well; because their eyes are close to the color of their fur, their facial expressions and personalities don’t always shine through in pictures. And since many adopters “meet” their new best friends online, that’s a real disadvantage.
There are also superstitions and negative stereotypes about black cats and dogs that simply aren’t true. Just ask anyone who loves their beautiful black dog or cat! They’ll tell you about all the wonderful qualities their pets possess and that they wouldn’t trade them for anything.
After all, the color of a pet’s fur has no relationship to his or her ability to provide unconditional love, companionship, devotion and affection.

Giving black animals a second chance

To help them find good homes, we have created the “Back in Black” adoption promotion. All participating animal shelters and rescue groups are offering 50% off the adoption fee for all black pets during the “Back in Black” adoption promotion from August 15-September 17, 2011.
Look for a participating No More Homeless Pets® Network Partner right here and see about finding a new best friend <3

Both my dog and my cat are black; Sable’s a British Bombay and Alphonse is a Border Collie mix.
I love them both to death, and I adore black animals because of how regal and sleek they look.
If it were up to me I’d be the most unlucky person ever with all the black cats I would own.
